Overview

Serving as a field-based extension of Medical Affairs for our Client, a leading company in RNA-targeted drug discovery and development, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will function as a scientific expert, interacting on a peer-to-peer level with key opinion leaders (KOLs), researchers, internal partners and patient advocacy groups in support of their product currently in development for a rare and progressive genetic disease. The MSL will support Company research initiatives and will develop and maintain long term relationships with current and future thought leaders in academic and clinical medicine within the rare diseases space. The MSL will deliver and discuss research data and new medical treatment concepts to key stakeholders affiliated with top institutions and regional centers of influence.

Accountabilities

  • Engage with National Opinion Leaders in rare disease and maintain long-term relationships to support company research and increase awareness and treatment of genetic nerve disease
  • Identify and develop Regional Opinion Leaders to increase awareness, understanding and disease treatment among relevant disciplines at regional centers of influence. Therapeutic areas may include: Neurology, Cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal, Hematology
  • Support ongoing research initiatives and facilitate new Investigator Initiated Research projects
  • Provide high-level scientific expertise and education on new advances in this rare disease to national and regional opinion leaders
  • Participate in advisory panels, investigator meetings and patient advocacy and education programs as requested
  • Facilitate communication between the Company and external medical experts
  • When appropriate, support the product’s Expanded Access Program
  • Provide timely, accurate, specific and balanced responses to KOLs’ requests for information
  • Attend national and regional medical congresses, staff medical booth, engage opinion leaders and gather competitive intelligence as determined by Company and TMAC leadership in alignment with strategy and objectives
  • Maintain robust scientific and clinical knowledge in therapeutic area and competitive information
  • Comply with company and industry guidelines in all activities and communication

Qualifications

  • Advanced clinical/science degree: PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN, PA required
  • 3+ years in pharmaceutical industry as a MSL required
  • MSL and/ or therapeutic experience in Rare Disease highly preferred
  • MSL experience in Neurology, Cardiovascular diseases, GI or Hematology supporting complex biologic products secondarily preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional initiatives
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex medical information to the medical community
  • Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication; strong presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work successfully as part of cross functional teams in a highly dynamic, matrixed, project-team environment
  • Ability to build productive work relationships both internally and externally
  • Entrepreneurial, creative and flexible
  • Demonstrated project management ability
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge and understanding of FDA requirements and PhRMA guidelines
  • Ability to travel on average 60%
  • Valid driver’s license
